About

Daniel Wachtel

Hey my name’s Daniel, welcome to my blog!

I’m a former practicing architect (as in buildings, not software architect) who changed professions and is now a full time software developer.

At my day job I mostly work with Ruby on Rails, Remix, Docker, Kubernetes, Cloudflare and AWS, and in my free time I like picking up new technologies.

For my personal projects I’m using Elixir / Phoenix, Rails, Remix, Jekyll and deploying with AWS, DigitalOcean, Netlify or Cloudflare (Pages, Workers, KV…).

I’m a committee member of the 100 School Project charity where we raise funds to help schools and improve education in poor regional areas - as a start we’ve been concentrating on provinces in India and helping out by supplying school furniture and shoes for the children.

My wife runs a Reiki practice in Melbourne (which I’ve built using Jekyll and hosting on Netlify).

I also love drumming and run a drumming blog - AboutDrumming.com, also built with Jekyll and deployed on Cloudflare Pages.

My latest project is armycrafter.com, a web app for miniature painters to find alternative paints from popular brands which I built in Remix and deployed on Cloudflare Pages with supabase as the backend.

I use this blog as a personal journal but hopefully also to help others learn.

If you have any questions, suggestions or just want to get in touch you can contact me here.
